Standard Bank leads financing for Seriti Green to expand wind capacity to 310MW
20 Aug 2025
The Ummbila Emoyeni 3 project expands Seriti Green’s total wind capacity to 310MW and represents one of the largest private wind initiatives in South Africa. Energy from the 155MW wind farm will be sold under a long-term offtake agreement to the Energy Exchange of Southern Africa (EXSA), marking EXSA’s first utility-scale power purchase.
As joint mandated lead arranger, Standard Bank played a central role in structuring and delivering the project financing package, providing ZAR2.45 billion of the overall ZAR4.9 billion debt. In addition, the bank contributed ZAR330 million in equity alongside shareholder funding.
Standard Bank’s support builds on its long-standing partnership with Seriti Green across multiple renewable energy phases. In 2024, the bank served as joint mandated lead arranger for the initial phase of Seriti’s greater 900MW Ummbila Emoyeni project.
Located in Mpumalanga, the project will create 800 construction jobs, helping stimulate the local economy through employment and income opportunities. Youth training initiatives will equip young people with skills for future careers in renewable energy, an important contribution in a country facing high youth unemployment.
