United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) holds some of the world’s largest oil and gas reserves. It also has one of the highest ratios of gross domestic product per capita in the world.
UAE at a glance

Despite the importance of oil and gas to its economy, the UAE has weathered fluctuating prices, mostly owing to greater economic diversification, large foreign exchange reserves and foreign investments.  Whilst hydrocarbons are still a vital source of wealth for the economy, it today contributes 30% to UAE’s GDP.

The two major economic hubs for the UAE are Abu Dhabi, the capital, and Dubai. While Abu Dhabi is the centre of the UAE’s oil and gas, and manufacturing industries, Dubai focuses on trade, construction, tourism and financial services.
