Africa is our home, and we are committed to driving the sustainable development of our continent and her people. With the ever-growing need for reliable access to electricity and sustainable energy solutions on the continent, we have been actively supporting a variety of projects that we believe will significantly contribute to the goal of achieving long-term energy security for all Africans. Our role in driving energy transition includes providing full banking solutions across multiple products, sector expertise to support our clients, investing in energy infrastructure development and developing an innovative platform for people to access energy solution providers. We believe that there is potential to unlock further growth and innovation in the energy sector and encourage others to join us in powering positive impact by working together to help meet Africa’s energy needs.
In line with our ambition of becoming the leading enabler of energy and infrastructure on the African continent, we are proud to have sponsored the annual Africa Energy Forum 2023 which was held in Nairobi, Kenya on 20-23 June. The event presented us with the opportunity to engage and partner with key stakeholders, enabling us to us to play a role in driving sustainable and inclusive growth in Africa, and moving the energy industry forward.
Some of the projects we have supported and developed include:
Red Rocket
We partnered with Red Rocket to reach financial close on 3 onshore wind projects with a total value of R12 billion.
EDF Renewables
We partnered with EDF to help them secure financial close on 2 wind-powered renewable energy generation projects within the first round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP).
PAIDF 2
We provided PAIDF 2 with a R500m equity financing solution in order to help the fund deliver on its strategic ambition of transforming Africa through infrastructure and catapult African economies into a higher growth trajectory.
Anergi
We provided Anergi with a EUR50m structured equity financing solution for Africa's largest wind farm, Lake Turkana Wind Power, which will help provide affordable renewable energy in Kenya.
Tronox
We partnered with Tronox to build a 200MW solar powerplant to support their mining operations in South Africa.
Seriti Green
We partnered with Seriti Green in its acquisition of wind-powered renewable energy company Windlab Africa.
Scatec
We partnered with Scatec to develop the first sizable battery energy storage and photovoltaic solar project in South Africa. Africa’s largest and South Africa’s first baseload renewable energy project, uniquely powered entirely by renewable sources.
