Dipak Patel
Head of Climate Finance and Innovation at the South African Presidential Climate Commission (PCC)

Dipak is the Head of Climate Finance and Innovation at the South African Presidential Climate Commission (PCC). He was appointed to the role in June 2021. Among his core duties are advising on the PCC’s work in the areas of climate finance mapping, financing a just energy transition and developing a strategy for financing the pathways to a net-zero emissions target for 2050. 

Dipak also serves as a non-executive Director on the Board of Transnet SOC Ltd and as an executive committee member of the Association of Former Directors-General (AfDG). 

Dipak previously served as a member of the Presidential Climate Finance Task Team, mandated by the President of SA to negotiate the terms of the Just Energy Transition Partnership financing package offered by the International Partners Group. He also previously served as Special Advisor to the SA Minister of Public Enterprises, from 2018 to 2020. In this capacity he was an integral part of the Minister’s Office, on the strategic and financial programme for state-owned enterprises. 

Dipak previously worked at Standard Bank (between 2002 – 2012), in various capacities across investment banking, heading up Structured, Project, and Trade finance divisions, as well as being the Global Head of transactional products. He served on the group Executive, Credit, and Investment committees. 

Dipak is a chemical engineer, and a qualified artisanal brewer, with an MSc in Development Economics (University of London) and an MBA (University of the Witwatersrand). He completed the Advanced Leadership Programme at INSEAD, France.
