Bonifacio Antonio
Advisor, Economic and Disaster Risk Reduction, INGD Mozambique

Bonifacio Antonio is Advisor for Economic and Disaster Risk Reduction at Mozambique’s National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD), where he has worked since 2006. He brings nearly two decades of experience in national policy development for disaster resilience and climate adaptation. Previously, he served as Coordination Officer Manager (2007–2022), where he played a central role in drafting Mozambique’s Master Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction (2017–2030) and shaping the country’s Disaster Management Law. Bonifacio has led strategic responses to major hazards including floods and cyclones, and continues to advise on climate resilience at the national and regional level. He is Mozambique’s current focal point for Disaster Risk Reduction at both the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU). He holds academic qualifications in journalism and environmental management, enabling him to bridge science and communication in climate and risk governance.
