
Sola Adegbesan is the Global Markets Clients Head - Africa Regions for the Standard Bank Group, with direct oversight of the client teams in all 19 African countries as well as our London and New York offices. He has extensive working experience in accounting, banking, and financial markets which spans across Africa and other Global financial centers.
Born in Nigeria, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (fellow).
Sola started his working career in auditing and tax advisory and his banking career with GT Bank in Nigeria as an ALM officer and then as a Trader in Money Markets and Fixed Income. He then held positions in FX trading and Sales with Standard Chartered Bank both in Dubai and Lagos, before running the Derivatives and Structured Products Sales business for Citibank in Nigeria. He joined Standard Bank in 2002 and prior to his current role, has managed the Global Markets business in Nigeria, as well as the client business for West Africa.
Sola has played an active role on the Boards of some of the Bank’s subsidiaries and was a founding Board member of FMDQ OTC which is currently the largest OTC Exchange in Nigeria. He is also a past President of the Financial Markets Dealers Association in Nigeria. He is presently the President of the South African Nigerian Business Council (SA-NBC).
