Dr. David Masondo is a political economist by trade and holds a PhD from New York University, focusing on Post-Apartheid State Industrial Policy and Investment in the South African Automotive Industry. He obtained his BA (Hons) and MA from the University of the Witwatersrand.

As the Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr Masondo serves as the Board Chairperson of the Public Investment Corporate. He is the Founding Principal of the OR Tambo School of Leadership and is currently serving as a Board member of the school. Dr. Masondo is an ANC National Executive Committee member, with an illustrious 30 years of political activism. He has held various political and managerial positions in government, including the MEC of Finance, CEO of the Automotive Industry Development Centre, Chief Director for Economic Sectors and Industry at the Department of Trade and Industry, and Director in the Local Government Department in Limpopo. He has also served as the principal member of the Financial Sector Charter Council. Dr. Masondo is passionate about education and community development, having lectured at the University of the Witwatersrand and is a founding chairperson of the Topisa Trust, which supports youth in promoting education, sport, and cultural excellence in Limpopo villages.
