Standard Bank supports EnviroServ’s acquisition of the Vissershok Waste Management Facility
30 Nov 2023
EnviroServ began as a door-to-door waste collection service in 1979 and has since cemented its place as a leading waste management company in South Africa. EnviroServ, a Level 1 B-BBEE company, prides itself on providing sustainable waste management solutions to the market through the application of new innovations, advanced systems and processes, and the highest quality fleet and equipment.
Standard Bank (‘the bank’) acted in its capacity as co-funder and co-mandated lead arranger along with Absa. EnviroServ previously held a 50% stake in Vissershok and was already managing it.
In 2022, the bank was the financial advisor and funder of the acquisition of EnviroServ by French water and waste giant SUEZ and its local partners Royal Bafokeng Holdings (‘RBH’) and African Infrastructure Investment Managers (‘AIIM’). EnviroServ, SUEZ, RBH and AIIM are existing clients of the bank, which prides itself on consistently supporting existing businesses to help them grow and reach their full potential.
EnviroServ has an ambition to play an integral role in creating sustainable South African cities, and the company prides itself on rising above the norm and creating standards of compliance that lead the waste management industry towards a safer, more environmentally-friendly future.
The bank supported this transaction not only because Vissershok is a key asset for EnviroServ but also to support SUEZ’s global strategy.
The bank is proud to have played a key role in a transaction of this nature as it has the potential to improve South Africa’s waste management, meaning better infrastructure, a higher quality of living in our cities and a more sustainable impact. This transaction is also aligned with its Sustainable Development Goals which address the importance of waste management, and EnviroServ and its strategic investors are now in a position to play a key role in helping minimise, recycle, manage and dispose of waste, thereby making South African cities in particular more safe, resilient and sustainable.
The bank will continue to pursue partnerships with businesses that aim to create a more sustainable life for all citizens.
