How soon are my collections settled to my account at Standard Bank?

Settlement is dependent on the type of collection service used and the client preferences that are configured:

  • DebiCheck collections – credited on successful processing.
  • Normal debit order collection is configurable but is commonly paid upfront during the bank processing stage with a risk that a failed collection will be reversed.
  • Card payments are settled in accordance with standard merchant settlement processes, i.e. Once cleared, on the following business day.
What is DebiCheck?

DebiCheck is a new debit order system formed by PASA (the Payments Association of South Africa) and participant banks that offers clients and consumers a more controlled method for collections.

  • The service allows clients to initiate electronic mandates on behalf of the consumer through the consumer’s bank.
  • The consumer’s bank will store a record of the mandate and subsequent collections are compared before the consumer is debited in order to ensure the mandate is valid.
  • Clients receive confirmation on record in EasySuite when a mandate is authenticated or accepted by the consumer's bank.
Can I use DebiCheck to collect from business accounts?

No. The DebiCheck service is currently limited to individual consumer accounts only.

Does DebiCheck work for any consumer at any bank?

No. Only DebiCheck participant banks are providing this service. (Most major banks)

What if I have consumers on existing NAEDO (Non-Authenticated Early Debit Orders)?

EasySuite enables you to migrate your exisiting NAEDO transactions to a "migrated DebiCheck mandate" without authentication.

  • A record of the mandate is kept on record at the consumer’s bank.
  • The mandate is disputable in terms of NAEDO.
  • Clients can still  take advantage of collecting from their consumers in the  early window but at a lower priority than DebiCheck collections.
What is the difference between DebiCheck and “NAEDO?”

DebiCheck will essentially replace NAEDO, the difference being:

  • DebiCheck is facilitated through an electronic mandate presented to the consumer and requires authentication from the consumer. DebiCheck collections now have highest priority in the early-collection window period.
  • NAEDO – a Non-Authenticated Debit Order system – was a high priority for early collections and will be replaced by DebiCheck. It will not be possible to create any new NAEDO collections after May 1, 2021.
What is a card mandate?

A card mandate is a new way to collect funds with the consumers permission (once-off or recurring) against a credit or debit card.

How does a card mandate work on EasySuite?

The client can initiate a mandate on EasySuite and use a URL generated by EasySuite to send it to their consumers.

  • When consumers click on the link (URL) from any device, the consumer will see a client-branded website that presents the client’s merchant information and mandate details for the debit order.
  • The consumer authorises the client’s request by capturing the card details securely, thereby giving consent to debit in accordance with the mandate.
  • Card details are captured in a secure PCI DSS-compliant environment that protects the consumer’s card details. (This reduced the client’s PCI compliance requirement and operational risk
  • Once authenticated, EasySuite can  process a card collection in accordance with the mandate rules.
What is a card collection?

EasySuite uses a powerful scheduling tool to manage the collections for every authenticated card mandate.  Clients will be able to view the success of the collections and manage the collections before the next scheduled run.

What processes must be followed to enable the EasySuite platform?

The following processes will need to be followed:

  • Non-Standard Bank clients will be assisted by Relationship Managers to enable compliance with the bank account and KYC (Know Your Client) requirements.
  • The required input must be provided for the pre-vetting of clients for collections in line with regulations.
  • Credit requirements must be assessed.
  • Standard Bank Electronic Take-On Forms must be completed for the services required.
  • Clients will need to provide Standard Bank with a view of their current sample file formats in order to allow us to assess the conversion requirements.
  • Card services will require a Merchant Agreement with Standard Bank

How do I move my existing collections or payments from another bank to process them on EasySuite?

In order to use EasySuite, the bank will need to:

  • Check your collections status and background with the regulator; and
  • Obtain sample files of your existing collections to ensure the service is configured to meet your needs.

Some services may require additional agreements, such as:

  • A Standard Bank account.
  • Contractual documentation.

The process involves various checks, in terms of regulations and documentation, which will be facilitated through your Transactional Account Manager.
