Standard Bank acted as the Sole Arranger, Underwriter and Lender for a 3-year term loan facility to finance capital expenditure for Twyford Ceramics Company Ltd. based in Kenya. It is the largest ceramic tiles producer in Africa and has ceramic tile plants in Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania and Senegal (under construction). Twyford is owned by two Chinese firms, the SunDa Group” (49%) a major distribution firm in Africa, and the second largest ceramics machine maker in the world Keda Clean Energy Company (51%).
The structured finance team’s insight and experience sets them up to offer bespoke products through various partner entities because of their solid credibility in the industry and international cross-border connections.
This first ever loan to a Chinese client in East Africa showcases Standard Bank’s understanding of the Chinese opportunity and furthermore demonstrates our continued commitment to unlock potential for key global players in building their operations in Africa. And lastly, reiterates the importance of symbiotic partnerships, particularly with ICBC, for future Chinese opportunities in Africa.
