Eskom is one of the top 20 utilities in the world by virtue of their capacity to generate electricity at significant volume - their net maximum self-generated capacity is 41 194MW. Eskom generates approximately 95% of the electricity used in South Africa and 45% of the electricity used in Africa. The company generates, transmits and distributes electricity to industrial, mining, commercial, agricultural and residential customers in South Africa in addition to distributing to municipalities, who in turn redistributes electricity to businesses and households in their respective areas.
